In this essay I engage with the concept of ‘Revolutionary Antifascism’ in order to examine spatial processes which refuse an authoritarian city. In brochures and leaflets from the 1990s, I encounter an antifascism that cannot be reduced to the fight against Nazis, but develops an understanding of revolution according to which the overcoming of the system requires a continuous and pragmatic process that nevertheless does not renounce maximum demands. I conceptualize this as a process of creating spaces that is fundamentally different from a fascist spatial organization and contrast a modern city map with a radical one. Revolutionary Antifascism as a city map is a construction of a left history initiated by a concrete situation, from which a position in the city and an alternative city can be built. Describing this liberatory spatial practice, I discuss three of its characteristics – collectivity, self-determination, and overcoming the system – in the context of three different spaces: violent spaces, free spaces, and dream spaces.
